Guimarães Castle (
Castelo de Guimarães), located in Portugal, was built in the 10th century.
More than a century later, Count Dom Henrique chose Guimarães to establish his court. T
he castle was completely renovated and became the
official royal residence from 1139, when Portugal became independent
from the spanish Kingdom of León.
