The Portuguese city of Chaves still retains the keep of a medieval castle. In the picture we see the tower lit by the evening light.

Chaves is the ancient Roman Aquae Flaviae. In those days was a city spa. Today it still is.

The Old Cathedral  is one of two cathedrals in Salamanca, Spain. The other is the New Cathedral of Salamanca. Both are a side by side.
In the picture, you can see the crossing tower of the Old Cathedral,  founded in the 12th century and completed in Romanesque/Gothic style in the 14th century. It is dedicated to Santa Maria de la Sede (Saint Mary of the See).

King John's Castle in Limerick

King John's Castle is located on King's Island in Limerick, Ireland, next to the River Shannon.

This castle, built on the orders of King John and bearing his name, was completed around 1200.

The walls, towers and fortifications remain today, and are a visitor attraction. The remains of a Viking settlement (see the photo) were uncovered during the construction of a visitor centre at the site.

Beside the cathedral stands a 100 ft 9th century round tower, an excellent example of a well-preserved early Christian round tower.
